Group games for kids are a great way to focus on social skills, teamwork, and gross motor skills! Here’s one of our favorites!
This game takes a traditional relay challenge and turns it on it’s head! Easy, free kids games are hard to come by, but this fun activity for gross motor skill development requires no planning and only simple materials you can find around your house! It’s sure to get some smiles while challenging kids’ motor skills and social skills too!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED: An object to carry
WHAT TO DO: Two children carry an object of choice (ball, pencil, stuffed animal, etc.) down a path and back using designated body parts between the two children. For example, the children carry a tennis ball pushing against each other with the ball between their backs. Can do this activity with two children for fun or several pairs for a competitive relay!
HOW TO CHANGE IT UP: Here are some ideas for different ways to carry the object. Be creative!! And remember, the larger the object, the easier the activity. Make the object smaller to make it more challenging for older children.
-Elbow to elbow
-Shoulder to shoulder
-Chin to chin
-Knee to knee
-Finger to finger
-Palm to palm
-Back to back
-Forehead to forehead
-Cheek to cheek
-Hip to hip
-Head to head

I’ve been trying to find a fun activity to reinforce team work with my Tiger Cubs (Cub Scouts), so I am thrilled to come across this relay! Thank you for sharing! Can’t wait to introduce this activity to my cubs!
