These Thanksgiving games for kids take all the best parts of a turkey dinner and put them to movement!
We’ve all done it…regretted eating that huge Thanksgiving dinner the second we stopped stuffing our faces and got up from the table. And, if your house is as noisy as mine, the nap you’re desperate for is just not going to happen. So, how about a little exercise to get that digestion process started? These gross motor activities for kids take all the best parts of a turkey dinner and put them to movement.

Mashed Potatoes
The Mashed Potato Dance (fists closed, arms extended out in front, alternating up and down movement.) All I can hear in my head is the Wiggle’s Hot Potato Song. If you like them, go for it.
Turkey
Flap your arms like wings and waddle like a turkey while moving carefully through the room. This is a little bit of aerobic exercise and will surely hit the funny bones of most — picture grandpa taking his turn!! :)
Apple Pie
Roll up into a ball on the floor, pretending to be an apple. Have everybody roll toward the center of the floor and sit together closely like apples in a pie.
Cranberries
Kiddos can stomp on the floor to pretend to mash and puree the berries.
Green Beans
Walk around as straight as you can, on tippy toes, arms extended upward, attempting to look long and tall like a string bean.
Giving Thanks
Shake hands, give hugs and compliments to your family.
For Virtual Sessions
During the virtual session, pull each card out of a container and show the child the pictures one by one. Demonstrate and provide the instructions above for each of the movements to go with the pictures.
