If you’re searching for a fun snow themed game for kids, this one is perfect for working on ball skills as well as recognition of body parts.
Do you want to build a snowman? If the weather isn’t cooperating, you can try it right in your own living room! If you’re searching for fun gross motor games for kids, this one is perfect for working on ball skills as well as recognition of body parts.
Working on rolling a ball toward a target is a great precursor to other ball skills like throwing and catching.
What You’ll Need
-Paper for making the parts of the snowman
-A ball
What to do:
Using construction paper, cut out:
-3 large circles for the body of the snowman
-A carrot nose
-A hat
-Eyes
-Scarf
-Arms
Make them as large as you can so that they can be seen easily when they are placed on the floor.
Sit across from your child or, if there is a group of children participating, sit in a circle around the paper objects with legs in a “V” position. Place the snowman pieces in the middle of where you’re playing.
As you roll the ball back and forth, it will roll over the different parts of the snowman. Each time the ball touches one of the snowman parts, move that part to your “snowman building area” (a separate part of your play space). Continue rolling the ball until all of the pieces have been added to your snowman.
How to Change it Up:
-The further you are from the paper objects, the more difficult it is to aim your ball and roll accurately!
-Use a weighted ball if you have one for some extra strengthening!
-Use a balloon for more attention to hand-eye coordination and have your child hit the balloon to each of the snowman’s body parts.
-Try this game with kicking instead of rolling the ball if you’re looking for some kicking practice!
Skill Areas Addressed:
Coordination, gross motor skills, motor control
