Playful Indoor Gross Motor Games
Thank you to everyone that contributed to our first “Monday Movement” share day on our Facebook page! We loved all of your ideas for playful ways to work on gross motor skills and have been sharing and pinning them throughout our social media pages this past week. Here is a round-up of our favorites from Monday, January 27th.
Next Comes L — Snowball Toss
We love how Dyan incorporated an Olympic theme, color recognition, and throwing practice into this fun activity! It would be perfect for any age and so many academic skills could be incorporated. Throwing is such a tough skills to get many kiddos to master because there are so many variables. Step and throw, throwing overhand and underhand, throwing with force and direction. This activity can touch on them all!
Little Bins for Little Hands — Indoor Ball Play
Another awesome throwing activity that incorporated math and prediction skills. I love how she used different objects for throwing (socks, newspaper, light/heavier balls) which changed up the proprioceptive awareness! She even varied the targets which added an extra level of motor planning and hand-eye coordination. The best part??? The targets were just boxes! So easy and yet SO fun!
Let’s Play Music — “I’ve Got a Body” Song
If you have been following us at The Inspired Treehouse, you know that we love a good song that incorporates motor play. This one is PERFECT!! Sara’s song gets kids moving and practicing a whole bunch of different motor skills and absolutely no props are needed. LOVE THIS!
3 Dinosaurs — 30 Days of Moving
Are you ever at a loss for ways to get your kiddos moving, especially on these cold winter days? Cassie’s list of 30 motor movements gets kids going with so many creative variations. Try filling a month up with a daily activity from her list. Your kids will love it and they will gain a ton from all of this gross motor practice!
Please find your favorite way to get your kids moving their bodies and consider sharing them on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/inspired.treehouse every Monday!
