Happy Post-Halloween-Monday everyone! Are you feeling a little sluggish? Are your kiddos crashing from the major sugar rush of the weekend? Mine sure are! No matter how hard I try to maintain control over the candy situation, I fail. Today, more than ever, is a great day to get the kids up and moving with some fun and creative gross motor activities!
Take them outside, go to a playground, go to the local rec center and swim in the pool…whatever it takes! We have some great inspiration for you from our Facebook Share Day last week.
And, yes, two of these activities are “Halloween” themed, but they were too good not to share and I am pretty sure you could twist them into something to do with turkeys for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday if you use your imagination! :)
ADVENTURES OF ADAM shared this Halloween activity based on a book! I love that she had her two-year-old practicing his gross motor and hand-eye coordination skills by chasing ghosts. Check out how she did it:
MOM INSPIRED LIFE combined learning letter skills, gross motor movement, a book, and a fireman theme to create this activity called “Rescue the Alphabet”! This is such a creative way to teach academic skills with movement AND it is so much fun that kiddos will want to do it for hours!!!
Giselle from KIDS YOGA STORIES is always a favorite of ours for her creative movement sequences for just about any theme or holiday that you can think of. She is amazing! Check out this Halloween sequence based on three books!
And, finally, HANDS ON AS WE GROW rocked it with this activity that is a great example of MOVING TO LEARN! She incorporated numbers and sequencing (and number bonds — which I had no idea about before reading) into an obstacle course of string. See how the game went here:
That’s all for today! We hope that this roundup of activities gives you some inspiration for ways to incorporate gross motor activities into your day today and everyday!
