Looking for fun fairy tales games? In this activity, kids will get to save the kingdom while targeting coordination, balance, strength, and more!
If you have kiddos who love princesses, kings, castles, and wizards…this is one of our favorite fairy tales games to capture their imaginations! Kids will get exposure to practice with skills like coordination, balance, motor control, and core strength all while they save the kingdom from the evil witch’s spell!
Don’t miss our recent post about our favorite obstacle course equipment – so many fun gross motor items to spice up your therapy room or PE class! And you can find all of our best obstacle course ideas here!
Fairy Tales Games: Gross Motor Obstacle Course
Tell kids that their kingdom is under the spell of an evil witch! To break the spell, they have to sneak into the castle and steal 5 things from her (her broom, her wand, her potion, her hat, and her cat) – but they can only carry one of the objects at a time!
What You’ll Need:
-Pool noodle (optional)
-Scooter (optional)
-Steps or a raised surface (optional)
-Fairy tale obstacle course cards (scroll down to fill out the form)
Here’s how to move through the obstacle course:
If you’re using the equipment above, set up the obstacle course items around the room in the following order: pool noodle, scooter, steps/raised surface, statue cards (place on the floor face down), witch’s object cards (place on the floor at the end of the obstacle course).
1 – Ride your horse to the castle (gallop – you can also add a pool noodle as the “horse”!)
2 – Swim across the moat (ride on your belly on a scooter or pretend to swim in superhero pose on the floor)
3 – Climb the beanstalk to get into the castle (climb up steps, onto a raised surface, or just pretend to climb a ladder by moving arms and legs).
4 – Fall under the witch’s spell! Choose a statue card and freeze in the position shown on the card for a count of 5.
5 – Break the spell by spinning around 3 times.
6 – Retrieve one of the witch’s items and bring it back to the beginning of the obstacle course to start again! Repeat until you have gathered all 5 items and broken the spell!
One child can go through the obstacle course 5 separate times, or you can try this activity with a group, with kids taking turns.
