The Fidget Spinner
What is a fidget? Are they toys? Are they sensory tools? Should we allow them? Should we ban them in schools? If we are going to use them, what is the best way to introduce fidgets in the classroom?
The bottom line is that we all have our own unique sensory needs and preferences. There is no one-size-fits-all option when it comes to the sensory tools and strategies we use to keep our bodies and minds calm, alert, and focused.
Fidgets for kids are only the tip of the iceberg when we talk about sensory tools and strategies for the classroom. There are many different ways to provide students with the movement and sensory input they need throughout the day – including movement breaks, alternative seating for the classroom, and building movement into everyday learning activities.
Other Fidgets for Kids
Fidget spinners may be a great addition to a classroom sensory toolbox, but they are only one example of the kind of fidgets for kids that are commercially available these days. So today, we thought we would broaden the conversation a little bit to talk about some of the other fidgets that are commercially available. Think of them as the fidget spinner’s distant relatives. :)
If the fidget spinner has been a fail for your kiddo or for a student in your classroom, having a variety of other fidgets on hand can help problem solve which one will be a fit to help keep him on track throughout the day. Here are some of our favorite non-fidget spinner fidgets.
