This fun spring-themed jumping activity is the perfect way to get kids moving while building important motor skills like coordination, balance, and motor planning!
Once kids learn how to jump, they want to do it ALL the time—and we love using that motivation to sneak in meaningful skill-building through play. Jumping helps strengthen muscles, improve coordination, and support overall body control.
This Bunny Hop Pattern Game takes things to the next level by adding a visual motor planning challenge…with adorable bunny feet that you can print and use right away!
This activity is especially great for working on:
-Motor planning
-Body awareness
-Midline crossing
-Coordination
-Visual tracking & sequencing
Lateral and directional jumping can be tricky for kids. They have to control their bodies, keep their feet together, and figure out where to move next—all at the same time. Turning it into a game makes it fun instead of frustrating!
🐰 What You’ll Need:
Bunny foot cutouts and bunny hop pattern cards (free printable – fill out the form below to get the freebie!)
Tape (or laminate for durability!)
How to Set It Up:
Tape bunny feet on the floor in a scattered layout
Arrange them so kids have space to jump safely between them
Each bunny foot should clearly show a direction (arrows or angled feet work great!)
How to Play:
1 – Give the child a bunny hop pattern card
2 – Arrange the bunny feet on the ground according to the card (or have the child do it for an extra challenge!)
3 – Have them start on the first bunny foot
4 – As they look at the pattern, they will:
-Follow the direction of each bunny foot
-Hop from one to the next in the correct sequence
Kids have the challenge of interpreting direction and planning their movement, adding an extra challenge!
Make It Easier or Harder:
Easier:
-Use fewer bunny feet
-Stick to forward/backward hops only
-Practice one direction at a time
Harder:
-Add diagonal hops
-Combine multiple pattern cards
-Increase distance between bunny feet
-Add a memory component (look, then hop!)
Pro Tips:
-Use painter’s tape boxes around each bunny foot to help kids stay in place for body control practice
-Encourage “quiet feet” to work on controlled jumping
-Emphasize two-foot jumps by having the child think about “glueing” their feet together before take-off.
-Turn it into a pretend play game: “Hop like a bunny through the garden!”
🌸 Why Kids Love It
When you turn a challenging skill into a playful activity, kids don’t even realize how hard they’re working—they’re just having fun. And that’s when the best learning happens!
