Do you want to build a snowman? If the weather isn’t cooperating, you can try it right in your own living room! If you’re searching for fun gross motor games for kids, this one is perfect for working on ball skills as well as recognition of body parts.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
-Paper for making the parts of the snowman
WHAT TO DO:
Using construction paper, cut out:
-3 large circles for the body of the snowman
-A carrot nose
Make them as large as you can so that they can be seen easily when they are placed on the floor.
Sit across from your child or, if there is a group of children participating, sit in a circle around the paper objects with legs in a “V” position.
Talk about what you might need first to build a snowman (a big snowball) and have one child roll the ball over the floor to that part. If she has a great aim and hits one of the big circles, she can pick it up.
Let the children take turns rolling the ball to the next part needed to build the snowman. Continue this way until all parts of the snowman have been gathered.
Now, help the kids build the snowman in the center of the floor, placing all parts where they are supposed to go.
HOW TO CHANGE IT UP:
-The further you are from the paper objects, the more difficult it is to aim your ball and roll accurately!
-Use a weighted ball if you have one for some extra strengthening!
-Use a balloon for more attention to hand-eye coordination and have your child hit the balloon to each of the snowman’s body parts.
